Scope and Contents
The Vern Gorst Postcard Collection is a small collection consisting of two photographic postcards from 1913-1914 inscribed by Gorst to Ellsworth Scott Wetzel. One postcard depicts the 1913 Martin seaplane that Gorst owned landing on the water. The correspondence on the verso of the postcard is dated June 3, 1913 and refers to the plane "as the only safe way of traveling." The Earl J. Heroux Pan American Airlines Collection contains visual and textual materials collected by Earl J. Heroux on a trip via Pan Am Clipper to Alaska. Richard J. McWhorter (1921-2007) was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho and had a long standing and multi-faceted interest in aviation, including owning and restoring vintage airplanes. The collection includes manuscript materials, ephemera, audio-visual materials, and approximately three hundred (300) photographs documenting the restoration of a Stearman C-3B (#NC7550), on display at The Museum of Flight, as well as a Stearman C-3R (#NC656K).
